ulBo is an Astro 6-ready personal blog theme for writers, developers, and independent creators who want a site with personality—without giving up publishing discipline.
Cinematic hero sections, responsive layouts, light and dark themes, and Material Design-inspired View Transitions give every page a polished, expressive feel. Home, archive, tags, About, and article pages share one cohesive visual system while remaining easy to personalize through centralized configuration.
Designed for long-form writing
ulBo turns Markdown and MDX into a focused reading experience with:
- A sticky table of contents for long articles
- Word counts and estimated reading time
- Dual-theme syntax highlighting with copyable code blocks
- KaTeX mathematics and Mermaid diagrams
- Image captions, lazy loading, and a built-in lightbox
- Print-optimized PDF export
- Responsive typography and layouts across desktop and mobile
Search, organize, and rediscover
Built-in Fuse.js fuzzy search can be opened with Cmd/Ctrl+K and searches titles, descriptions, article content, categories, and tags. The tag explorer combines filtering, highlighted matches, article previews, and client-side pagination, while archive pages, RSS, and sitemap support make larger collections easy to navigate.
Configuration without the scavenger hunt
Site metadata, profile information, social links, hero copy, and background images are organized under a centralized configuration layer. A strict Frontmatter contract keeps published content consistent, protects drafts from production output, and provides safe validation and normalization tools. The theme also works with an empty content directory, making it practical to customize before publishing your first post.
Built with publishing fundamentals included
ulBo provides canonical URLs, robots directives, Open Graph and Twitter metadata, RSS, sitemap generation, and JSON-LD for websites, authors, and blog posts. Performance-focused details include image lazy loading, asynchronous decoding, hover prefetching, flash-free theme initialization, and an explicit WebP optimization workflow that never modifies content during a normal build.
Optional VS Code writing companion
The optional ulBo Article Manager brings the publishing workflow into VS Code. Create drafts, edit Frontmatter from a visual sidebar, organize categories and tags, generate article descriptions, start the local Astro preview, open the current article, validate referenced images, and prepare a post for publication with precise Git staging.
Safe deletion moves articles to the system recycle bin, while commits, pushes, and deployment remain completely under your control.
- Use ulBo as a GitHub template, replace the centralized configuration with your own identity, add Markdown content, and publish a personal blog that feels considered from the first screen to the longest article.
